The Cry1B.61.1 protein is encoded by the cry1B.61.1 gene, which is a modified cry1B-class gene from Bacillus thuringiensis. The protein is active against susceptible lepidopteran pests. It acts by binding to specific receptors in the insect midgut, leading to the formation of non-specific ion-conducting pores in the apical membrane of midgut epithelial cells. This disrupts midgut integrity and results in insect death
